Deal Between County Commission and First Baptist Church Points to Bright Future

During their Monday morning meeting the Cherokee County Commission gave approval for the chairman to sign all the paperwork relating to the First Baptist Church Property closing – and Tuesday morning the commission members, along with various church members and many others re-convened in their chambers at the Administration Building, as Commission Chairman and Probate Judge Tim Burgess welcomed all those in attendance:

Last November, the Commission and the Church struck a deal for purchasing that property, located at 374 East Main Street in Centre, at a cost of $150,000.

Following the signing ceremony, Brother Melvyn Salter shared this with us:

We also spoke to Brother Eddie Nation with Centre First Baptist Church:

As far as the plans for a new county courthouse, Probate Judge/Commission Chairman Tim Burgess says everything in still in the early planning stage, and an overall time line could be anywhere between three and five years.

We’ll continue to follow developments along the way.
