Sheriff Jimmy Harris told WEIS Radio News that on Saturday, around 6:00pm – Deputy Troy Brown and Crossville Police Officer Jason Brown both responded to a domestic disturbance call on County Road 534 in Crossville.
Officer Brown and Geraldine Police Officer Josh Jones had been to that same address earlier in day for a dispute between neighbors.
When Deputy Brown and Officer Brown arrived that evening, they found 46 year old Burlin Richard Pritchett in possession of a weapon; Pritchett was then told to immediately put the weapon down, and he was then secured in a patrol car.
At that point, a witness told law enforcement that Michael Alan Chapman, age 47 – had been shot and killed.
The victim was soon located and investigators were called to the scene.
According to Sheriff Harris, witnesses and neighbors are still being interviewed in regard to the incident.
Pritchett is currently being held in the DeKalb County Detention Center without bond.
Sheriff Harris says “This is a terrible thing that has happened and our thoughts and prayers go out to the families. The Deputies and Officers did a great job on this case. A special thanks to Crossville and Geraldine Police, they have responded to this road on several different occurrences for us.”
