DeKalb County Man Charged with Two Counts of Assault 1st Degree following Shooting Incident

According to a News Release issued by DeKalb County Sheriff Nick Welden – around 1:00pm Sunday (April 25th) law enforcement and rescue personnel were dispatched to the area of Park Street in Geraldine in reference to a physical altercation involving a firearm.

Upon arrival, it was discovered that two people, a male and a female – had been shot. Investigators with the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office, along with several members of the DeKalb County Major Crimes Unit, were notified and responded to the scene.  Both of the subjects were transported to Huntsville Hospital for additional treatment of wounds sustained from the gunfire.  Upon analysis of the scene, investigators were able to place Joshua Smith, age 34 of Geraldine under arrest on two counts of Assault, 1st Degree.

Sheriff Welden says this is an on-going investigation, and additional charges could be forthcoming; he added that the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office wishes to express their appreciation to the DeKalb County Major Crimes Unit, Geraldine Police Department and Crossville Police Department, for providing valuable assistance during the entire investigation.
