On-Going Feud Leads to Shooting Incident in DeKalb County / UPDATED

DCSO - Shooting 2DeKalb County authorities confirmed Thursday that at least one additional 9-1-1 call was placed from the home where a shooting incident occurred on Wednesday of this week.

According to reports – homeowner LaWayne Bell fired several rounds through the front door of his home in Powell, striking the victim, identified as Monte Gant, at least twice.

DeKalb County Sheriff Jimmy Harris said Gant was taken to Huntsville Hospital – where he was listed in critical condition Wednesday night; WAFF TV48 is reporting that according to the sheriff, Gant’s wife had recently stayed with Bell. It’s unclear whether she was there at the time the shooting occurred.

Authorities say Wednesday’s incident is at least the third time over the last several months that a report has been filed regarding a dispute between the two men.

Bell was questioned following the shooting, but has not been charged.

Investigators are still attempting to determine if the case should be deemed domestic violence or a case of self-defense.
