DeKalb County Shooting Leaves One Injured; Suspects Still at Large

A shooting reportedly took place in the Kilpatrick area of DeKalb County Wednesday night.

According to Sheriff Jimmy Harris, law enforcement arrived on the scene at around 8:00pm, to find the victim suffering a gunshot wound to the upper left thigh.

The man informed officers that two Hispanic males wearing hoodies – with black and white bandanas across their face – had knocked at his front door, and when he answered the door, the pair attempted to shove their way inside.

During that altercation the victim’s wife reportedly ran to the bedroom, but she was unable to find a weapon; it was then that the intruders shot the homeowner in the thigh.

He was transported by DeKalb Ambulance Service to Marshall Medical Center South, and he was later air-lifted to UAB Hospital in Birmingham.

Law enforcement officials are still searching for the two suspects and the FBI and DEA have been called in to assist in the investigation.

The DeKalb County Sheriffs Office has a $1,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the suspects.

Anyone with any information regarding the incident should call the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office at (256) 845-3801.
