On Thursday morning, WEIS Radio News was made aware of a possible threat being issued toward Cherokee County High School. We made contact with the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office, Superintendent Mitchell Guice and High School Principal Seth Neyman, and at approximately 10:20 received the following statement from Principal Neyman:
CCHS Statement: “A possible threat to the school was brought to the attention of CCHS administrators late on the evening of April 3rd. In cooperation with the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Department, an immediate investigation was conducted.
The investigation concluded that there was no merit to the threat.
The administration of CCHS appreciates any and all information about potential threats.
Student and employee safety is always a priority. CCHS also extends much appreciation to the Cherokee County Sheriff Department for their quick and efficient response.”
Chief Deputy Josh Summerford stated that the Sheriff’s Office was notified of the threat late Wednesday and investigators followed up on the matter throughout the night. The decision was made to post a deputy at the school Thursday morning as a precautionary measure.
No additional information is being released at this time.
