A high speed pursuit through Centre on Friday ended in a head on crash just inside Etowah County.

According to Centre Police Chief Kirk Blankenship the pursuit began after officers attempted to stop the vehicle driven by 29 year old Jenny Lynn Rescino of Centre.

Officers received numerous calls throughout the day reporting her vehicle driving recklessly.

Centre K-9 Officer Billy Roche spotted the vehicle at Wal-Mart and attempted a traffic stop. At that point, Rescino led officers on a pursuit down Main Street, across Bay Springs Road, up the bypass and down Hwy. 411 through Leesburg into Etowah County where the chase ended after she attempted to pass a car and hit a Chevy HHR head on.

According to police, speeds during the chase reached well in excess of 100 miles per hour.

Rescino was taken to Gadsden Regional Medical Center for treatment of injuries and released early Saturday morning where she was met by Centre Police and immediately placed under arrest. The driver of the HHR identified as 44 year old Danny Bowen of Boaz was airlifted to UAB Hospital in Birmingham.

Chief Blankenship said Rescino will be charged with DUI, Felony Attempting to Elude, Misdemeanor Attempting to Elude, Running a Red-light, Running a Stop Sign, Reckless Driving, Failure to Yield, Improper Lane Change, Driving on the Wrong Side of the Road, Speeding (108 in a 45), and several other traffic offenses  – she had just been released from the Cherokee County Detention Center earlier in day for Attempting to Elude.

Officers of the Leesburg Police Department, Cherokee County Sheriffs Deputies, and the Coates Bend Fire and Rescue Department also assisted.
