We have had reports that at least one person is having to be rescued from the frigid waters of Weiss Lake after apparently getting pulled into the turbines on a raft near the discharge side of the powerhouse on County Road 20 in Leesburg.

Several Rescue Units from Cherokee County have been called to the scene with assistance being requested from the Coates Bend Fire & Rescue Department in Etowah County.

At this time there have been no injuries reported, however paramedics were called to the scene.

Officials with Alabama Power were also called to the scene to shutdown the turbines.

Stay with WEIS Radio News as we continue to follow this developing story.
