Check out the official plot synopsis for Hacksaw Ridge below:

Hacksaw Ridge is the extraordinary true story of Desmond Doss [Andrew Garfield] who, in Okinawa during the bloodiest battle of WWII, saved 75 men without firing or carrying a gun. He was the only American soldier in WWII to fight on the front lines without a weapon, as he believed that while the war was justified, killing was nevertheless wrong. As an army medic, he single-handedly evacuated the wounded from behind enemy lines, braved fire while tending to soldiers and was wounded by a grenade and hit by snipers. Doss was the first conscientious objector awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor.

Co-starring the likes of Hugo Weaving (The Hobbit), Sam Worthington (Everest), Vince Vaughn (Unfinished Business), and Teresa Palmer (Lights Out), Gibson’s latest work should provide fans of war dramas a whole new way to look at the vast array of services provided by American soldiers overseas. Garfield is certainly a rising star in Hollywood to call upon to play the role of someone as decorated and revered as Doss was in real life, and his performance should result in a thrilling take on the drama that was the late serviceman’s life and career.

Gibson has made some of the most highly respected dramas in the past ten plus years, and with any luck Hacksaw Ridge will prove to be another shining example of his prowess behind the camera. It’s been some time since Gibson last graced viewers with a production of his own making, and his new movie could be the return to the director’s chair that viewers will pore over with decided interest.

Hacksaw Ridge will see theatrical release in the U.S. on November 4, 2016.
