Discussion of New Centre Elementary School Gets Heated During Tuesday’s School Board Meeting

It was an explosive meeting for the Cherokee County School Board on Tuesday after Superintendent of Education Mitchell Guice made the following recommendation.

The construction of the new Academic Building would come at a cost of approximately $8.1 million dollars; this discussion item has remained on the board’s Capital Plan for the last three years.

School Board Member Corey Colbert had this to say –

However, during the November 8th meeting, Colbert stated that he would not vote in favor of any improvements at any schools until action was taken on improvements at Centre Elementary School.

School Board Brian Jennings had these comments –

A vote was taken and the measure was voted down by a 3-2 margin with Suzzanne Bishop and Lisa McKissick voting for the measure and Brian Jennings, Corey Colbert and Kathy Mobbs voting against it.
