Distress Call Reporting Elderly Female in the Water Friday Afternoon in County Road 608 Area

Just after 10:30 on Friday morning Cherokee County First Responders were dispatched to a location on County Road 608 to a Distress Call reporting an elderly female in the water.

Captain Geno Smith and Assistant Cedar Bluff Fire Chief Matthew Sprayberry, were the first to arrive and they quickly pulled the 90 year old woman from the water.  She was stabilized by paramedics, then taken by ambulance to Floyd Medical Center in Rome for treatment.  The woman reportedly suffers from dementia.

Those responding to the scene in addition to the Cedar Bluff Fire Department included Cherokee EMS, Cherokee Co. Rescue Squad personnel and the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office.

The incident remains under investigation.
