District Attorney Mike O’Dell Appoints New Deputy DA

Cherokee County District Attorney Mike O’Dell has handpicked a successor for longtime Deputy District Attorney Scott Lloyd who officially announced his retirement following 25 years of service to the Ninth Judicial Circuit. Lloyd will be opening his own private practice law office in Centre.

During a retirement reception held in Lloyd’s honor on Friday, O’Dell informed us that Assistant DA Summer McWhorter will take over the roll as Deputy District Attorney.

We had an opportunity to speak with McWhorter and she said that she is excited and honored to be given the chance to serve.

Summer is a 2006 graduate of Auburn University where she graduated magna cum laude with a degree in Political Science and a 2009 graduate of Cumberland School of Law.  After being admitted to practice, Summer returned to Cherokee County to enter private practice.
