In Dixie Youth baseball, the Cherokee American squad opened with a 15-8 victory over Oxford Gold on Thursday in the AAA tournament in Priceville. The Americans followed up that victory up a win and a loss on Friday.

The American’s outslugged Central of Florence 23 to 1. Later Friday evening the American’s fell to Decatur American 4-2. With that loss, Cherokee American will meet the winner of the Oxford Golf versus South Bibb contest.

At the Alabama Recreation and Parks Association (ARPA) softball tournament in Athens yesterday Centre lost to Florence in the girls 8 and under tournament. Centre will now face Heflin on Saturday.

Meanwhile, the 10 and under girls tournament open action today, also at the Athens Sportsplex, against either Boaz or Florence. A total of ten teams comprise the 10 and under tournament field.

Six teams are in contention for the 12 and under state title. Centre begins play today versus Lincoln.
