DNA Evidence Leads to Woman’s Arrest in Burglary Case

A DeKalb County woman has been charged with Burglary 3rd Degree in connection with an April 27th, 2016 burglary occurring at the Fuel City convenience store in Powell.

Investigators collected DNA evidence at the scene, sending it to the Alabama Department of Forensic Science in Huntsville – where a match was eventually made with a Pisgah resident, 53 year old Patsy Goins Dodd.

She was taken into custody January 31st.

DeKalb County Sheriff Jimmy Harris stated that all felons booked into the Detention Center have a DNA sample taken, which is sent to the Department of Forensic Science in Hoover; at that point, the sample is stored in a National Database.

The DNA is checked with Alabama and other states to see if any match is made with anyone who may have committed a felony such as murder, rape or robbery.

Sheriff Harris commended the investigators working on this case for their close attention to detail and for the great job they did in gathering evidence at the scene which led to the case being solved.
