Driver Cited for DUI in Single-Vehicle Crash Occurring Last Weekend on Highway 48 in Cloudland

An accident occurring on Highway 48 at Cloudland last weekend was reportedly caused by the driver falling asleep at the wheel.

According to the Georgia State Patrol Post in Rome, Georgia Brandi Nicole Hulgan, age 29 of Valley Head, Alabama was traveling eastbound on 48 just past River Haven Drive, when she fell asleep and ran off the roadway. 

The report indicated that Hulgan over corrected twice, and her car began to spin around in the roadway and crossed over into the westbound lane before leaving the road and striking a tree, which flipped the 2001 Pontiac Grand Prix she was driving.

Hulgan was extricated from the vehicle and transported by Redmond EMS to Floyd Medical Center with injuries.

Troopers cited Hulgan for Failure to Maintain a Single Lane, Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol or Drugs and Possession of a Controlled Substance.
