An 18-wheeler crashed over Joe’s Truck Stop on Highway 35 Friday afternoon. The driver, who had been trapped in the cab, appeared to be unharmed but was taken from the scene in an ambulance.

Police Chief Randy Bynum said the truck’s brakes had gone out on its way down the mountain.

“We’re glad he’s OK,” said Bynum. “For the amount of trucks that drive down this mountain everyday, we’ve been fortunate.”

Mayor Larry Chesser said the city has been working on a solution to the problems that particular stretch of road presents.

He said the Department of Transportation has promised funding for a project that will hopefully begin next year.
