Electile Dysfunction: Adult Stars Celebrate Defeat of “Dangerous” Prop 60

Venus Lux – 2016(LOS ANGELES) — One of the more controversial measures that was defeated on Election Day was known as California Prop 60, which would have mandated porn stars wear condoms on camera.

Michael Weinstein, president of the AIDS Healthcare Foundation, touted the measure as a way to keep performers safe from STDs, but the measure went far beyond that, leading to an immense backlash, and its eventual defeat, adult industry giants tell ABC Radio.

Calling the possibility the bill would pass “traumatic,” award-winning trans performer and entrepreneur Venus Lux said in an email that the measure was, “couched as a ‘safe sex’ bill,” but it, “would have affected [our] safety.”

Under the regulation, not only would condoms and even goggles be required on camera, but performers would have had to make their personal information public, giving potential stalkers vital information.

What’s more, it would have allowed someone viewing adult material to sue performers if they think the star isn’t using protection.

“It had nothing to do with condoms,” Alison Tyler agreed to ABC News, noting her industry already has strict mandatory testing policies in place. “Proposition 60 also incentivized the residents of California to file lawsuits against the workers in the adult industry.”

“This bill had nothing to do with performer safety and everything to do with control and money,” added Alia Janine, who has retired from the business now performs stand up comedy.

Referencing the presidential election results, actress and fashion model Natassia Dreams noted cheekily about Prop 60’s failure, “We had one big defeat so at least we won this one.”
