One person was taken for treatment following a two vehicle crash on the Chesnut Bypass in front of Little Caesars Pizza Friday afternoon.  According to information in the Centre Police Department accident report, Samantha Kidd, 21 of Centre – driving a 2008 Toyota Camry – was transported to Floyd Cherokee Medical Center by Floyd EMS while the driver of a 2005 Dodge Van, 54 year old Kristi Whitmier of Cedar Bluff, escaped injury.

The Centre Police and Fire Department, Rescue Squad personnel and Floyd EMS responded to the scene.

That accident took place at 5:10pm; meanwhile, the Centre Fire Department responded to a vehicle fire in the parking lot of QQ Sushi & Hibachi, only a few hundred feet from the scene of the wreck – with the fire being called in at 5:12.

According to Centre Fire Chief Jeremy Lee, the occupants of the Dodge Durango managed to exit the vehicle safely, and firefighters quickly extinguished the blaze.  The occupants of the vehicle had just gone through a local drive through, and Centre firefighters managed to put bring the blaze under control so fast, Chief Lee was able to retrieve their food from the cab, and return it to them unharmed.

What led to the possible mechanical malfunction leading to the fire remains unclear.
