Etowah County Authorities Arrests Three For Trafficking Meth And Seize Guns,Cash

Three individuals have been charged with drug related offenses in Etowah County, according to Deputy Commander Phil Sims.

Derrick Christopher Ward, 38, of  Hokes Bluff, Al. is charged with trafficking in methamphetamine, unlawful possession of marijuana 2nd, and carrying a pistol without a permit. Ward had a previous conviction for manufacturing of methamphetamine 2nd and is currently out on bond for unlawful possession of a controlled substance in Cherokee County. Bond was set at $50,000 cash.

Alexis Lyn Grubbs, 19, Piedmont, Al. is charged with trafficking in methamphetamine and unlawful possession of marijuana 2nd. Bond was set at $50,000 cash.

Candie Nichole Callahan, 27, of Gadsden, Al. is charged with trafficking in methamphetamine and unlawful possession of marijuana 2nd. Bond was set at $50,000 cash. Also, she faces additional drug charges from previous cases.

On July 18, 2017, Etowah County Sheriff’s Sgt. Victor Payne, Deputies Bobby Ridgeway and Shari Bellew, and U.S. Marshal’s Task Force Officer Brent Whisenant responded to a local business and arrested Ward and Callahan on outstanding felony drug warrants. They had arrived at the business driving a Kia Spectre. Grubbs was a passenger in the vehicle also.

An inventory of the vehicle resulted in approximately 70 grams of methamphetamine, a small bag of marijuana, two handguns (.45cal and a .25 cal), paraphernalia, and $2048 in cash being seized. ECDEU agents were notified and responded to the scene.

All three were transported to the Etowah County Detention Center without incident.
