Etowah County Copper Thieves Caught on Camera

Copper CreepsA man and a woman were both caught trying to steal copper from a cell tower in Etowah County on Monday (November 18th).

39 year old Darrell Stephen Curvin of Alexandria and Jessica Marie Jenkins, age 31 of Ohatchee, were caught in the act – due to the fact that the Etowah County 9-1-1 dispatchers are able to view the area around the tower through live cameras on the property.

A Sheriff’s Office Deputy and a Glencoe Police Officer responded to the scene, after Curvin was seen inside the cell tower’s gated area.  Jenkins was found inside a vehicle on the property, while Curvin was walking to the automobile; burglar’s tools were located both in the car and inside the gated area.  Copper wiring valued at $800 had been pulled from the ground near the tower.

Curvin and Jenkins have each been charged with, one count of 2nd Degree Theft of Property and one count of Possession of Burglary Tools, which are felonies, and with one count of 2nd Degree Criminal Trespassing, which is a misdemeanor.

Both are being detained in the Etowah County Detention Center on bond of $5,500 each.
