Etowah County Man Charged with Attempted Murder

Murder - Lucky Jim Gilbreath

An Altoona man is currently behind bars in the Etowah County Detention Center on a cash bond of $100,000 – after slitting a relative’s throat.

42 year old Lucky Jim Gilbreath has been charged with attempted murder in connection with the incident.

According to Sheriff Todd Entrekin – Gilbreath and the victim were at a home on Durham Road in the Howelton community when an argument began; the altercation apparently stemmed from what became a heated discussion over the fact that Gilbreath’s children had been removed from his custody by the Department of Human Resources.

Deputies arrived on the scene to find the victim sitting in a chair outside of the home, covered in blood with a bandage around his neck; the man told deputies his throat had been cut with a knife and he was taken to Marshall Medical Center for treatment – receiving 78 stitches in his neck.

Gilbreath was soon located at a nearby residence and taken into custody.
