According to Gadsden Police reports, shortly before 8:30pm, a man entered the Captain D’s on East Meighen Boulevard through the exit door; the suspect, who was wearing blue jeans a black mask and a black hoodie, reportedly told the 18 year old clerk that he had a gun and would shoot unless his instructions were followed. The employee told police the man kept his right hand in his front pocket while making the threat.
The man reportedly fled after taking $598; moments later, officers saw a man matching the description of the suspect on North Sixth Street directly behind the restaurant. They found a railroad spike in his right front pocket.
The man, identified as Derrick Rayshun Williams was taken into custody – and he was later identified by employees as the robber; the money was found in the front yard of a home on North Sixth.
Williams has been charged with Robbery 1st Degree and he is currently being held without bond in the Etowah County Detention Center.
