Etowah County Sheriff Todd Entrekin has announced that he will be seeking a third term as sheriff in 2018.  He became Sheriff of Etowah in 2007, when Governor Bob Riley appointed him after the passing of Sheriff James Hayes, however Entrekin’s career in law enforcement began long before that, starting back in 1982 – and over time he progressed as a dispatcher, patrol deputy, an investigator, drug task force commander, assistant chief deputy and chief deputy. 

“My career of over 35 years at the Sheriff’s Office gives me the unique ability to continue to provide strong leadership through experience as the Sheriff.  I will continue to work hard in responding to the changing threats in today’s world and keep our communities safe,” Sheriff Entrekin said.  “As Sheriff, I commit to provide dependable and experienced leadership to our men and women in law enforcement as we do our best to protect the citizens of Etowah County.”

Sheriff Entrekin attended the Northeast Alabama Police Academy in Jacksonville, Alabama and FBI National Academy in Quantico, Virginia.  He holds certificates in Criminal Justice Education at University of Virginia, Richmond, Va., and in Police Executive Development at Valencia Community College, Orlando, Fla.  Sheriff Entrekin also has completed additional courses in management, investigations and crisis management and homicide investigations

When Sheriff Entrekin isn’t working he likes to spend free time like many Alabamians do – hunting, fishing and being with his family. Todd met his wife, Karen Heath Entrekin, at the Sheriff’s Office, as she is also in the law enforcement field. Together they have three children – Colee, Jacob and Mallori.
