An Etowah County woman remains lodged in jail following her arrest in connection with an apparent case of arson in regard to a house fire occurring on Egypt Road. 37 year old Crystal Kay McClung of Altoona admitted to investigators that she broke into an unoccupied house, took canned food from the cabinets, and then started a small campfire a few feet from the structure – which resulted in the vinyl siding catching on fire.
She was witnessed running from the area as firefighters arrived on the scene.
As a result of her actions, McClung was charged with one count of Burglary 3rd Degree, one count of Arson 3rd Degree and one count of Theft of Property 4th Degree. Her bond has been set at $4,500.
