Extended Family Organization Awarded “Making a Difference” Grant

Extended Family Awarded ACJF Making A Difference Grant

Extended Family, a non-profit organization based in Cherokee County, has received a $3,000 Alabama Civil Justice Foundation (ACJF) Thanks for Making A Difference Grant for their work with children of the incarcerated. Leesburg Attorney Marcie Foster nominated Extended Family for the award. ACJF received 23 applications and awarded only seven grants.

“We are honored to be chosen to receive a Making a Difference Grant,” said Laure Clemons, Extended Family Executive Director. “These funds will be used to expand Extended Family for Kids in Cherokee County. Extended Family for Kids is a 9-lesson program for children who have a loved one incarcerated. We are in every school in Cherokee County, and our enrollment numbers keep going up. This grant will help us continue to make a difference!”

Attorney Marcie Foster initially learned of the grant opportunity and decided to nominate Extended Family for the award.

“I am thrilled that EFK was chosen by the Alabama Civil Justice Foundation “Making a Difference Grant”, Foster said. “It is very aptly named in this case as EFK makes a difference not only immediately to the children they serve but to the community as a whole by helping to break the cycle of incarceration. I know that this grant will be used to make a difference to more children and more communities. Thank you to the Alabama Civil Justice Foundation for making this grant and over $12 million in other grants available to the families and communities that need help the most.”

The Alabama Civil Justice Foundation was established in 1993 to provide resources from the Alabama legal community to support worthwhile charitable organizations serving disadvantaged, disabled, and at-risk families and children. As a statewide grant making foundation, ACJF has since awarded over $10 million to nonprofit organizations with a mission directed toward supporting those most in need.
