(LOS ANGELES) — Warner Brothers’ Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald delivered an estimated $62 million in its opening weekend — a little shy of the $65 million the studio had anticipated, but more than enough to top the weekend box office.

Overseas, the latest chapter in the Fantastic Beasts franchise — starring Jude Law, Johnny Depp and Eddie Redmayne — earned an estimated $191 million, including record openings in a number of countries, including Russia and Brazil. Worldwide, the film’s weekend tally is expected to reach $253 million.

The Grinch slipped to number two in its second week, raking in an estimated $38.2 million. Bohemian Rhapsody landed in third place, delivering an estimated $25.7 million.

The second of this week’s news releases, Instant Family, starring Mark Wahlberg and Rose Byrne, had a disappointing opening weekend, earning an estimated $14.7 million. Likewise, Steve McQueen’s heist drama, Widows, led by Viola Davis, came in below expectations with an estimated $12.3 million debut, to round out the top five.

The docudrama A Private War, also struggled, earning an estimated $725,000 after expanding to 865 theaters. However, the Willem Dafoe lead At Eternity’s Gate opened strong in limited release, delivering $92,000 from just four locations. Green Book, the dramedy starring Viggo Mortensen and Mahershala Ali — delivered an estimated $313,000 from 25 theaters.
