Highway 48 was shut down for a period of time overnight after a two-car accident going up Lookout Mountain between Menlo and Cloudland.
Early reports indicated that by the time law enforcement and emergency workers arrived on the scene, both vehicles were fully engulfed in flames. Emergency workers requested two medical helicopters, but inclement weather was hampering rescue efforts.
At least one person was killed as a result of the accident. No further details are known at this time, but WZQZ will have more information as it becomes available.
