Fatal Accidents Up Over Long Thanksgiving Holiday Travel Period Compared to Last Year

Fatal traffic accidents investigated by the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency this year were up over last year during the long Thanksgiving holiday travel period.

The holiday period officially started at 12:01am Wednesday, November 27th, and stretched through midnight Sunday, December 1st – during that time, eleven people were killed.  Those fatal crashes occurred here in Cherokee as well as Baldwin, Escambia, Hale, Madison, Morgan, St. Clair and Wilcox counties.  That doesn’t include deadly accidents worked and investigated by other law enforcement agencies.

During the same extended holiday in 2018, troopers investigated seven traffic deaths.  Although the 2019 Thanksgiving period total is higher than last year, troopers have worked 20 fewer traffic fatalities so far this year compared to the same time last year.
