A single-vehicle accident Wednesday on I-59 in DeKalb County, has claimed the life of a Cottondale woman.
Johnnitta Lavelle Mason, 38 – was a passenger in a 2002 Mercury Grand Marquis that left the roadway and struck a tree. Mason, who according to the report was not using a seat belt was pronounced dead at the scene. Three juvenile passengers were also injured and transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.
The driver, identified as Victor Antwan Lawson, 36, also of Cottondale, was not hurt..
That crash occurred on Interstate 59 near the 202 mile-marker, approximately three miles south of Collinsville at 8:00am.
No additional information is currently available, as State Troopers with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s Highway Patrol Division continue to investigate.
