Feds Open Investigations into Ford Door Latch, Steering Issues

The Ford Motor Company(WASHINGTON) — Federal regulators have opened separate investigations into two issues affecting nearly 643,000 Ford vehicles.

The first probe involves an estimated 380,000 Edge SUVs from model years 2011 to 2013. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says the “door ajar” light in these vehicles may stay on all of the time, not allowing drivers to know if any of the doors are in fact closed.

“Reported safety consequences as a result of this issue include doors opening while driving, doors cannot be locked while driving, and the interior dome lights staying on
continuously,” according to the NHTSA.

So far, federal regulators have received 1,560 reports regarding this issue, and one injury has been reported.

The other investigation centers around 262,599 Fusions from model year 2010. The NHTSA says it has received 547 reports of the power steering assist in these vehicles failing suddenly, “making the vehicle difficult to steer.”

To date, 12 crashes have been reported along with four injuries.
