Fire Destroys Home Christmas Night in Chattooga County

A house fire in Chattooga County, Georgia destroyed a home on Christmas night.

The fire was reported to Chattooga 9-1-1 around 9:00pm, with the caller saying it appeared that a house was on fire near the Floyd County line on Highway 100.  Both the Holland Fire Department and a Chattooga County Deputy were dispatched to the scene.  The responding deputy could not find a structure fire on Highway 100, but did see the glow of a fire on County Line Road.  The deputy alerted the Holland Fire Department which then responded to the scene at 277 County Line Road.

The house was actually located in Chattooga County, but has a Rome address.  According to Investigator Eddie Stroup of the Chattooga County Sheriff’s Office, no one was home at the time of the fire and the structure was a total loss.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
