Firefighters Battling Large Wildfire At Little River Canyon National Preserve

According to Matt Woodfin with the Cherokee County Office of the Alabama Forestry Commssion, Firefighters are battling a very large wildfire that started earlier this morning at the Little River Canyon National Preserve near Martha’s Falls in DeKalb County and quickly spread into Cherokee County on County Road 861.

Alabama Forestry Firefighters from Cherokee and DeKalb Counties along with the Broomtown, Gaylesville and Adamsburg Fire Departments are assisting in addition to 3 AFC pumpers. Plow units have been advised to pull back at this time as an air-drop unit has been contacted.

At this time it is not know exacfly how many acres are burning. Cherokee County Road 861 is being shut down at this time.
