Firefighters Respond To Two Structure Related Fires In The Pollard’s Bend Community

Firefighters responded to two structure related fires in the Pollard’s Bend Community, one on Thursday and the other Friday.

According to Leesburg Fire Chief Jeremy Lee, on Thursday morning a fire was reported inside a cabinet shop adjacent to a residence. Chief Lee said that it appears to have started around a fan.

The owner stated he was outside when he noticed black smoke coming from the area around the fan and tried to extinguish it with a bucket of water, but was not successful.

On Friday morning, a passerby saw flames coming from a window at a residence and called 911. The fire was very well developed upon the fire departments arrival.

The owners were not at home and no one was hurt. Cherokee County Fire/Arson Investigator Jordan Kelly was contacted and is expected to conduct a more thorough investigation.

Units from Centre, Sand Rock, Mt.Weisner, Ball Play Bend and the Ball Play #1 Fire Departments all assisted in providing manpower and water. Floyd EMS also responded as precautionary.
