First Look: Denzel Washington and Viola Davis in "Fences"

©2016 Paramount Pictures. All Right Reserved.(LOS ANGELES) — Fans will have to wait until December 25 to see Denzel Washington’s adapation of August Wilson’s Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award-winning drama Fences, but a new teaser trailer has just debuted.

Set in 1950s Pittsburgh, the film also stars Oscar winner Viola Davis as Rose, the wife to actor-director — and fellow Oscar winner — Washington’s Troy.

The powerful piece centers on family, betrayal, and race — and took some seven years to get to the big screen.

Washington and Davis starred in an acclaimed run of the play on Broadway back in 2010, and when he knew there would be a film, he wanted to keep that cast together for the big screen bow.

He told ABC News recently, “Obviously Viola … Stephen Henderson, Mykelti Williamson … [it] gave us a good rhythm.”

One look at the footage, and it’s easy to see why insiders have already earmarked the production for NEXT year’s Oscar race.
