Floyd Chosen as New Ambulance/EMS Service Provider for Cherokee County

Floyd will soon be the new Ambulance/EMS service provider for Cherokee County.

That announcement came during Thursday’s meeting of the Cherokee County E9-1-1 Board

That’s David Early, Floyd Vice-President for Support Services & Operations.

He, along with Bud Owens, Floyd EMS Director, and Robby Hill, Assistant Director for Floyd EMS – were in attendance as Floyd was awarded the contract.

Cherokee Emergency Medical Services Inc. of Centre had earlier this month announced that they would no longer be providing Ambulance/EMS services for the residents of Cherokee County, that becoming effective midnight, September 30th.

On the heels of that announcement, the Board began to solicit bids for those services for the county with the closing date for submittal being Monday, September the 17th at 9:00am.

WEIS Radio had learned prior to Thursday’s announcement that two bids had been turned in, and the company being awarded the bid would officially take over operations as the new service provider at 12:01am October 1st.  Floyd will serve Cherokee County in the new role, with the exception of the southern portion of the county, which will continue to be serviced by the Piedmont Rescue Squad and Ambulance Service.

David Early with Floyd told WEIS Radio News that a full press release would be issued soon regarding that new role, adding that everyone at Floyd looks forward to serving the citizens of Cherokee County in that capacity.
