Floyd County Police Officer Reprimanded After Having Service Gun Stolen From Car

A captain with the Floyd County Police Department was given a reprimand – after his gun was stolen out of his locked police car on Sunday night.

Captain David Reeps had parked his county car at his home, but had company coming over and did not want to take the gun into his home, according to Chief Bill Shiflett.

Cody Shon Reeves, 19, of a Kingston Road residence, is accused of breaking into the vehicle of Reeps’ wife. Inside that vehicle was an iPad and keys. Reeves used those keys to get into Reeps car and stole a Glock 40, which was Reeps service weapon.

Reeves was later captured by police with the weapon and he made aggressive movements toward the gun two times. The gun was in his waistband, concealed by his shirt.

Reeps was reprimanded because officers are required to have the weapon on them in their house, according to Shiflett.

Reeves is also a suspect in other thefts from vehicles. He is in the Floyd County Jail charged with multiple counts including entering an automobile, theft by taking and the possession of methamphetamine.

Reeves was also arrested on several counts of entering an automobile back in November – and was indicted on those charges just two weeks ago.

He is currently being held the Floyd County Jail without bond.
