Floyd EMS Issues Statement Regarding Award Of Contract For EMS/Ambulance Services In Cherokee County

“Floyd is honored to be selected to provide Emergency Medical Services (EMS) for Cherokee County, Alabama, and we want to assure the residents and visitors to Cherokee County that we are ready to begin EMS operations at 12:00 a.m. on October 1,” said Kurt Stuenkel, president and CEO of Floyd.

“We are grateful to the Cherokee County Communications District for the opportunity to bid and for the board’s diligence in seeking qualified bidders. Our patient-centered pre-hospital care is an excellent match for the needs of this community, and we are committed to providing quality, on-the-scene care and fast, safe transport to the emergency room,” he said.

According to Mr. Stuenkel:

EMS services are vital to Floyd Cherokee Medical Center. Operating the ambulance service in Cherokee County will greatly enhance Floyd’s ability to provide comprehensive and appropriate care in the county. Floyd is dedicated to making quality health care accessible to the residents of Centre, Cedar Bluff, Gaylesville, Leesburg, Sand Rock, Broomtown, Spring Garden and all of Cherokee County.

Floyd has enjoyed a long and healthy relationship with this community, from providing primary care and urgent care services to managing Floyd Cherokee Medical Center. Add to that a new Floyd Primary Care practice opening in Piedmont on October 1. Over the course of the past decade, Floyd has invested $9.6 million in northeast Alabama.

Floyd EMS is an innovator, community partner and educational leader. It is one of the most highly recognized and respected EMS providers in Georgia. Floyd EMS has won the Georgia EMS of the year award three times and Region EMS of the Year eight times. Floyd has provided EMS services in Floyd County and Rome, Georgia for the past 52 years, and has served Polk County, Georgia for the past nine years.

Floyd EMS will provide professional, highly-skilled, around-the-clock ambulance coverage in Cherokee County, just as it has in Floyd and Polk counties. Floyd EMS is initially designating three ambulances, each appropriately staffed, to Cherokee County, and the service will continually evaluate its fleet and staffing to ensure it is delivering care quickly and efficiently. This ability to respond is supported by a fleet of 18 ambulances, seven Non-Emergency Transport vehicles and disaster response vehicles. Floyd recently invested more than $500,000 in new EMS fleet and equipment as part of an ongoing process to ensure it is continually ready to serve.
