Former Centre Elementary School Teacher Sentenced on Sexual Abuse 2nd Degree Charge

Leah GarmanyA former teacher at Centre Elementary School has entered a guilty plea to a Sexual Abuse in the Second Degree charge, as charged in count two of the indictment.

Leah B. Garmany age 36 of Centre entered the plea in Cherokee County Circuit Court before Judge Jeremy Taylor on Wednesday of this week (September 23rd).

As part of the plea agreement, count one of the indictment, Electronic Solicitation of a Child, was dismissed.

On the Sexual Abuse Second Degree charge the judge imposed a 12 month sentence – which was suspended for 24 months; if Garmany fails to abide by the guidelines put forth, she will then have to return to jail and serve a full year.

Additionally Garmany is required to register within sixty days pursuant to the Sex Offender Registration & Notification Act.

Garmany resigned her tenured position as a teacher following her arrest in February of this year (2015).
