Former Floyd County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Indicted by Grand Jury

Nelson, RickA former Floyd County Sheriff’s Office Deputy has been indicted by a grand jury on a charge of false statements and writings.

James “Rick” Nelson had resigned from the sheriff’s office back in 2012 in the midst of a GBI investigation surrounding his claims that he had been struck in the face with a microwave oven while arresting James Tommy Turner at an Adams Circle residence in May of that year

Nelson took out a warrant for Turner, charging him with aggravated assault in connection with the incident.

Sheriff Tim Burkhalter stated that shortly after the incident his office looked at the warrant and deemed it “inclusive”, then turned the matter over to District Attorney Leigh Patterson, who then turned it over to the GBI – which is listed as the prosecuting agency.
