Former Hays State Prison Inmate Files Lawsuit

Hays State PrisonA former Hays State Prison inmate has reportedly filed suit against the Georgia Department of Corrections claiming that he was beaten and raped with a broomstick while incarcerated at the facility.

Alfred Days says that he was raped by other prisoners, who were part of a gang, because he had refused to bring contraband into the prison after coming back in from work details; the suit contends that the Georgia Department of Corrections and the warden at the prison, had failed to adequately protect him while in custody.

The incident reportedly occurred last December.

According to a report in the Chattanooga Times Free Press, those named in the suit include Warden Scott Crickmar and Deputy Warden Alisa Hammock, and one member of the prison medical department, referred to only as “Dr. Hill.”

Days is serving a ten year sentence after pleading guilty in 2008 to aggravated assault along with armed robbery and the possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Following the alleged attack, Days was moved to a prison facility in Davisboro, Georgia.
