Getty Images/Kevin Winter (LOS ANGELES) — A day after Star Trek: Discovery star Anthony Rapp’s accusations against Kevin Spacey made headlines, former House of Cards executive producer Beau Willimon called the accusation “deeply troubling.”
In an interview with Buzzfeed, Rapp says that when he was 14, an allegedly drunk Spacey, then 26, climbed atop him in bed while he was attending a party at the House of Cards star’s apartment 1986.
Rapp, now 46, claims Spacey, “picked me up like a groom picks up the bride over the threshold,” adding “I [didn’t] squirm away initially, because I’m like, ‘What’s going on?’ And then he lays down on top of me.” Both Spacey and Rapp were appearing in separate Broadway plays at the time.
“He was trying to seduce me,” Rapp continues. “I don’t know if I would have used that language. But I was aware that he was trying to get with me sexually.”
In response to the news, Willimon tweeted a statement that reads, “Anthony Rapp’s story is deeply troubling. During the time I worked with Kevin Spacey on House of Cards, I neither witnessed nor was aware of any inappropriate behavior on set or off. That said, I take reports of such behavior seriously and this is no exception. I feel for Mr. Rapp and I support his courage.”
Sunday night, Spacey responded to the report on Twitter, writing in part, “I’m beyond horrified to hear his story. I honestly do not remember the encounter, it would have been over 30 years ago. But if I did behave then as he describes, I owe him the sincerest apology for what would have been deeply inappropriate drunken behavior, and I am sorry for the feelings he describes having carried with him all these years.”
Spacey also revealed he’s gay during his apology, ending decades of speculation but drawing criticism from many for his decision to come out in the context of Rapp accusing him of alleged inappropriate behavior toward a minor.
