Ex-Judicial Assistant Charged with Theft

Warren, MelodyAccording to a news release from the state attorney general’s office, an ex-judicial assistant for Calhoun County District Judges, has been charged with stealing from the courthouse.

52 year old Melody Warren of Oxford was indicted by a grand jury in August on two counts of Theft of Property First Degree and one count of Using Her Position as a Public Employee for Personal Gain.

The news release stated that Warren “exerted unauthorized control over money or checks”, worth more than $2,500.

According to the Anniston Star – she last worked for Calhoun County District Judge Mannon Bankson, but resigned after suspicions of theft surfaced.

Warren turned herself in to the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office Wednesday morning where she was placed under arrest; she was released on bond a short time later.

If convicted, Warren could face up to 20 years in prison, and fines of up to $30,000 for each count.

A court date has yet to be set.
