Fort Payne Man Charged With Elderly Abuse And Neglect

On Tuesday, Fort Payne Police Chief Randy Bynum stated a call came into the Fort Payne Police Department requesting officers to respond to 305 Bus Circle SW. Fort Payne Fire Medics were already on scene when officers arrived.

Officers made contact with a 78 year old elderly female who was lying in the floor; she was the mother of 54 year old Michael Dimitri Mullins also of the residence.  Also on scene was a health care worker who was assigned to check on the elderly female.

It was determined that the female was in the floor for a while, medical aid was rendered to the female and she was transported to the hospital Bynum stated.  Officers arrested Michael Mullins on charges of Elderly Abuse and Neglect in the second degree and Obstructing Governmental Operations due to the fact that Mr. Mullins did not want Police or Medics at his residence.

Mr. Mullins was transported to Fort Payne Police Department where he was processed and later turned over to the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office where he awaited bond totally $55,000.00.

Chief Bynum says the investigation in the case continues and more charges are possibly forthcoming.
