Fort Payne Man Found Dead In His Cell At The Fort Payne City Jail, ALEA Investigating

A 43 year old Fort Payne man was found dead in his cell shortly after being booked in at the Fort Payne City Jail on Monday.

According to a news release from Fort Payne Police Chief Randy Bynum, William Shannon Crane was arrested on Monday at 11:08 pm for Public Intoxication and Criminal Trespass 3rd degree charges.

Crane was transported to the Fort Payne Police Department where he was processed without incident and placed in a holding cell.

At approximately 5:20 am Tuesday morning Fort Payne Police Corrections personnel was handing out breakfast meals and found Crane unresponsive in his cell.

Fort Payne Fire & Rescue responded to the jail and were unable to revive Mr. Crane.

The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency is in charge the investigation.
