Fort Payne Man Killed In A Shooting Incident At An Attalla Business On Thursday

The name of a man shot a killed in a Thursday shooting at an Attalla business has been released.

Etowah County Captain of Enforcement Josh Morgan said that the incident occurred at Hammett Towing. 22 year old Steven McElrath of Fort Payne died of his wounds and two others were injured.

29 year old Brandon Chandler of Fort Payne was treated at Marshal Medical Center South and then taken to Erlanger Hospital in Chattanooga.

41 year old Donald Hammett of Attalla, who is an employee of the business, was last listed in critical but stable condition at UAB Hospital.

The incident apparently stemmed from an argument that escalated into an altercation over a transmission.

Captain Morgan said that charges are expected to be filed in connection with the incident. The investigation is still ongoing.
