Fred’s Delivery Driver Brings Load of Power Outages to West Centre / UPDATED

FRED 5Portions of Centre were left without power, after a Fred’s Department Store Delivery Truck managed to snag several power and telephone lines on West Main Street, at around 9:30 on Tuesday morning.

According to police, the driver, 42 year old Corey Miles of Wrightsville, Georgia was headed westbound when the mishap took place directly across the street from Ray’s Saws.

Tension placed on one of the lines caused a pole next to Southern Auto Glass – next door to the saw shop – to snap, with most of the pole coming to rest in the middle of West Main.

Two other vehicles received minor to moderate damage meanwhile another received major damage; fortunately, no one was hurt.

Those involved in the accident included 36 year old Timothy Nichols of Ashville Alabama in a 2004 Toyota Tacoma; 52 year old Peggy Casey of Gadsden in a 2007 Chrysler Sebring and Miriam Ragland, age 61, also of Gadsden, driving a 2011 Chevrolet Cruze.

The only vehicle which had to be towed from the scene was the Toyota Tacoma.

Power was out for just under an hour; then after being restored, was out again immediately – this time for about 20 minutes; several minutes after power came back on that time it was out yet again – finally being restored just prior to noon.
