A “Justice for Amberly Barnett” Benefit Walk to Fight Child Abuse took place on Saturday (April 6th) on the campus of Cherokee County High School.

A local group of concerned citizens and family members of Amberly Barnett organized the walk in her memory. Amberly was found strangled to death behind the home the man charged with her murder back in March.

Organizers wanted to raise awareness about child abuse and in doing so donated the proceeds to The Cherokee County Children’s Advocacy Center.

April is National Child Abuse Awareness Month.

This month and throughout the year, The Children’s Advocacy Center encourages all individuals and organizations to play a role in making Cherokee County a better place for children and families. By ensuring that parents have the knowledge, skills, and resources they need to care for their children, you can help promote children’s social and emotional well-being and prevent child maltreatment within families and communities.

Research shows that when parents possess six protective factors, the risk for neglect and abuse diminish and optimal outcomes for children, youth, and families are promoted.

Event organizers were able to raise $400 and a $100 Wal-Mart gift card was also donated.
