Ft Payne Man Arrested in Connection with Sexual Assault

A Ft Payne man is now in custody in connection with a sexual assault occurring back in May

Ft Payne Police Chief Randy Bynum issued a News Release this week, outlining a timeline of the investigation and the circumstances leading up to Shane Lee Henagar being arrested on six felony counts, including Burglary, Robbery, Sexual Abuse, Sodomy, Theft and Unlawfully Entering a Vehicle.

On May 5th Ft Payne Police Officers were called to investigate a burglary and sexual assault occurring in the area of Fourth Street Northwest.  The homeowners told officers that a man had broken in while the female homeowner was in the house alone.  As the male homeowner returned home that night, he saw the suspect run from the scene.

Police Chief Randy Bynum said officers collected forensic evidence at the scene, and testing by the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences linked Henagar to the crimes however the Chief said he couldn’t provide details about the evidence collected.

If convicted, Henagar could face up to life in prison.
