Ft Payne Man Jailed on Burglary Charge; Second Suspect Sought

Tuesday of this week (June 12th), Ft Payne Police responded to a residence at 921 Alabama Avenue North in response to a report of an incident in which possibly two males dressed in dark clothing were banging on a door to the home.

According to the report, entry was made into that residence with one suspect wearing a red bandana over his face holding what appeared to be a silver handgun.  The occupants of the home were all juveniles.  One of the four juveniles was struck in the face with a gun, and the other three were hit with fists and open hands, and were told “not to say a word,” about the incident.

Taken during the robbery were two cell phones which were recovered a short time later on a suspect walking nearby appearing to match a suspect’s description who was also carrying a red bandana.

Ft Payne Officers arrested 19 year old Dylan Jordan Sweeney, of Cardinal Lane in Ft Payne, on two counts of Robbery 1st Degree, two counts of Assault 3rd Degree, and one count each of Assault 2nd Degree and Burglary 1st Degree.

The investigation continues in the search for the other suspect. Sweeney was apprehended by Ft Payne Police Department Officer and Detective Jim Phillips, who was working another case when he heard this call.

Chief Randy Bynum stated Sweeney remains lodged in the DeKalb County Detention Center with bond set at $106,000.
