Funeral Services Announced for Jackie and Gary Skelton

Funeral services for Gary and Jackie Skelton will be held this Friday in Trussville.  Visitation will be one hour prior to the service, which will take place at 11:00am at the Central Baptist Church – 8762 Gadsden Highway (Highway 11)

The two former Cherokee County residents were found shot to death inside their home in the small town of Leggett, North Carolina – which is around sixty miles away from Raleigh – on September 6th.

Authorities state they have taken three people into custody in connection with the deaths – charging two with First Degree Murder.

Jackie Skelton grew up in Centre and was a graduate of Cherokee County High School.  She’s the sister of Centre resident Steve Sumners; her parents, Slim and Merle Sumners, were the owners and operators of Cherokee Auto Parts for many years.

The couple’s son Stephen also worked for WEIS Radio several years ago.  Eventually, Jackie and Gary moved to North Carolina after Gary began working at an area banking facility – he was also the Mayor of the Town of Leggett; Jackie worked as a nurse at an oncology clinic.

A Celebration of Life Service was held Tuesday at the Skeltons’ church – Englewood Baptist, in Rocky Mount, North Carolina.

Again funeral services will be held this Friday at 11:00am at Central Baptist Church at 8762 Gadsden Highway (Highway 11), Trussville with visitation one hour prior to the service.
